In Honor of National Coupon Month: 30 Place to Find Coupons

In celebration of National Coupon Month this September, ILoveCouponMonth.com--an online source for coupon information, statistics and savings tips created by CouponSherpa.com --shares 30 tried and true, plus some unexpected, places to find coupons for a month-long of savings.

Founded by the Performance Marketing Association in September 1998, National Coupon Month recognizes the impact coupons have had on consumer buying habits. Happily, coupons have become even more pervasive since 1998 and are now available just about everywhere you look, whether it be via the Internet, social media, smartphone or bank statements.

In fact, such digital coupons are galloping to the fore. According to research released June 1 by eMarketer, 88.2 million consumers will use digital coupons as an important part of their shopping experience in 2011. That's 47 percent of adult Internet users, a statistic that's destined to rise in the near future. The study also revealed 92.5 million adult Internet users will use online coupons in 2012, versus 96.8 million in 2013.

Wether you are new to the coupon game or a skilled clipper, ILoveCouponMonth.com is the ultimate destination for coupon-lovers featuring data, 30 days of savings tips, and much more. Helping shoppers save even more money during National Coupon Month, here are 30 places to find coupons for 30 days of bargains.

1. Coupon-Aggregate WebsitesForget all that clipping and sifting through newspapers; online coupons make the hunt-and-peck method a thing of the past. Coupon-aggregate websites allow shoppers to pinpoint the coupons they need and either use the coupon codes to save online or download printable coupons for shopping at brick-and-mortar stores.

2. Smartphone AppsMore than one in four mobile users in the U.S. own a smartphone, which makes coupon applications amazingly handy. For example, the free CouponSherpa.com app that offers mobile coupons is perfect for I Love Coupon Month as it actually allows you to search for coupons while shopping. The coupon is then displayed as either a scannable image or numeric code that the cashier can enter at the register. You receive an immediate discount. The app also features grocery coupons. Type in your ZIP code to find a supermarket in the area, save desired grocery coupons from your phone to their loyalty card, and enjoy instant savings when their card is swiped at checkout.

3. Social MediaFacebook, Twitter, even YouTube provide links to coupons from just about every merchant and service you've heard of. Need a new dress? Visit your favorite retailer's Facebook page and print out a coupon. Heading to the grocery store? Check their Twitter feed for coupon links. Lastly, look for coupon bloggers who create instructional videos on YouTube that include similar links.

4. Daily Deal ServicesBy now, nearly everyone has heard about daily deal services, the largest of which are Groupon and Living Social. The success of these two behemoths has led to major clonage, including many companies focusing on specific regions or cities. Here's how it works: You register with the site and receive daily emails detailing major savings for various services and merchants. If you're interested, just click on the deal, pay and download the attached coupon.

5. Direct Mail PacketsDirect mail packets are envelopes stuffed with paper coupons and delivered to your mailbox. The most popular and steadily growing version comes from Valpak, delivered in light-blue envelopes roughly once per month.

6. Bank StatementsBillShrink works with 2,000 banks to analyze consumer spending habits and provide coupons implanted in your bank statements above certain purchases. In essence, this method allows retailers to target coupons specific to your likes and needs, instead of requiring customers do the research.

7. Coupon TrainsTrains are a simple way for enthusiasts to exchange coupons through the mail. Every train is different, but the rules are basically the same. An envelope of 40 to 200 coupons is mailed from the "conductor" to the first person on the train list. That person removes the coupons they want, replaces them with those of equal value and number, then mails the envelope on to the next member. Many such trains are now sponsored by mommy bloggers.

8. Loyalty Card CouponsMost major supermarket chains allow shoppers to upload coupons from their websites to loyalty cards. The trick is to remember which coupons you've actually loaded so you don't forget or buy the wrong product. This marketing method is beginning to cross over to other companies. For example, Shell gas stations offer fuel discounts for repeat customers with rewards cards.

9. Manufacturers' WebsitesWanting to get a cut of the action, manufacturers began offering their own online coupons, some of which are printable coupons you can use in their stores. Others offer coupon codes for online purchases. The variety of coupons available may surprise you. Everyone from furniture to health-food manufacturers have gotten in on the game. For example, Lane Recliners recently advertised a $100 coupon usable with a minimum purchase of just $499.

10. Emailed NewslettersSign up for email newsletters offered on merchant websites and many will regularly send out coupons. If you plan on registering for a bunch of these newsletters, you might want to create a separate email account so your personal inbox isn't overwhelmed.

11. eBayThe online-auction site devotes an entire section to coupons, many of which are sold via the "Buy It Now" status. This means you can purchase the advertised coupon immediately without waiting for the auction to expire. The day I checked there were more than 81,000 coupons on offer.

12. PayPalBased on a subscriber's previous purchases, PayPal provides coupons specific to your needs.

13. Newspaper InsertsThe original source for coupons, newspaper inserts are still the number-one place to find print coupons. You can add to your collection without multiple subscriptions by asking friends and family to pass on inserts they don't use.

14. Online Store CircularsSubscribing to a newspaper for the circulars is still the number one way to find coupons, but many merchants now post these sale flyers directly on their websites, allowing you to download coupons or access the coupon codes.

15. Cellfire.comAnother coupon aggregate site, Cellfire.com allows you to download coupons directly to your grocery loyalty card. The cashier then swipes the card at checkout and "poof," instant savings. The service is available for over 3,500 grocery stores across the country. Signing up for a free membership entitles you to additional savings and services.

16. MagazinesCoupons are one of the best way advertisers can gain attention amidst a deluge of ads in magazines. Check out medical waiting rooms for extra copies, but ask before you tear.

17. Entertainment BooksFor nearly 50 years, Entertainment has helped schools and other non-profits raise funds by selling these bound coupon booklets. You'll pay anywhere from $5 to $25 for a ton of coupons in such categories as dining, shopping, movie tickets, groceries, services, travel, attractions, car care, and home furnishings. You can also buy Entertainment Books directly from its website.

18. Recycling BinsAsk friends, neighbors, family members and stores if you can dig through their recycling bins for unused coupons. Be careful about hitting commercially owned bins, however, as some cities have laws against this practice.

19. Phone BooksPhone books may be the equivalent of print dinosaurs, but most include a coupon section for local businesses either in the middle or at the back.

20. Junk MailPostal carriers hate these loose flyers because they're hard to deliver, but junk mail promotions are a good source for coupons. Some replicate newspaper-insert content while others offer entirely different coupons.

21. Free SamplesManufacturers offering free samples through the mail usually include a coupon or two as a means of enticing you into purchasing their goods. This is pretty cool because you can actually try the product before buying.

22. Coupon Clipping ServicesYou'll pay a nominal fee for coupons from these services, but you can register to receive coupons in specific categories or for preferred manufacturers and stores.

23. Hangtag CouponsMost often found on wines and bottled products, hangtag coupons, naturally, hang off the neck of the bottles.

24. Coupon ForumsWhether your a newbie or an extreme couponer, these forums are a great way to learn about special deals and coupon links. Member discussions keep you informed about the best and worst coupons while offering tips for use.

25. With Your Grocery ReceiptKnown as Catalinas, these coupons are usually keyed to your purchase that day or, if you use a loyalty card, previous purchases.

26. Supermarket Tear PadsTear-pad coupons usually hang out next to a product in grocery stores. As the name suggests, you simply tear off the coupon you need and turn it in at checkout. Don't be greedy, however. Leave some behind for other shoppers.

27. Restaurant Recipe Tear PadsSearch the checkout station at restaurants for tear pads with recipes and attached coupons. You might also ask your server if they offer coupons. Some take-out menus also include coupons.

28. BlinkiesBlinkies are coupons distributed in stores by SmartSource Coupon Machines. The nickname refers to the machines blinking light, designed to catch your attention. SmartSource typically changes the coupons every month and the offers vary between regions and stores. Some blinkies actually "talk," which is incredibly irritating in already noisy stores.

29. Loyalty CardsMany supermarket chains allow shoppers to upload coupons from their websites to your loyalty card. The trick is to remember which coupons you've actually loaded so you don't buy the wrong products. This promotional method is beginning to cross over to other merchants. For example, Shell gas stations offer fuel discounts for repeat customers.

30. Inside Product PackagingLook inside your cereal boxes, can labels, etc. for hidden coupons. If you're lucky, the manufacturer has advertised the coupon's existence on the front of the package.

For even more places to score coupons check out the latest blog post from Coupon Sherpa.

Kitchen & Cooking Tip: Keeping Your Pantry List in Plain Sight

Keeping Your Pantry List in Plain Sight by O Quinn

There is no doubt when it comes to planning meals and putting together your grocery list a pantry list helps a lot! It’s nice to know what you already have on hand so you don’t repeat yourself at the checkout line. How many times have you purchased some pasta, a bottle of ketchup or even a box of salt only to find you had already purchased some the last time there was a sale and put them ever so safely high on the shelf where you promptly forgot they existed?

I love keeping a pantry list not only for the ultra organization factor but also because I can know at a glance how much I have on hand and when I need to stock up again.

The problem can be where to keep such a list. By habit we tend to keep our pantry lists inside of our homemaking planners. That is a good is a good idea because it contains all of our homemaking details. But when you set about to cooking you’re in the kitchen and your homemaking planner isn’t necessarily there too. You might have cloth covered planner that you don’t want to get splatter with the day’s meals. Or maybe your launch pad (to be discussed later) can be found even in another room and that is where you keep your homemaking planner.

I have found that behind the door of said pantry turns out to be the best place to put a kitchen pantry list. I paste a page protector to the back of the door using using one of those 3M removable poster tabs. If you keep kitchen staples in more than one place then a page protector on the back of each door where food items are stored works well. Organize your staples before hand so that each area is a designated spot for certain kinds of foods.

Then I edit my pantry list to show the items I carry on hand at all time. Add what I actually do have on hand in pencil and place it behind the page protector.

When I go to meal plan or make a grocery list I can see at a glance what I have on hand. And know when I see a sale for an item I keep in my kitchen I know whether I need to restock or whether buying more would be too much and a waste of money.

Tools Needed
Pantry List
Page Protector the size of your pantry list
Some sort of tape for poster or light object. 3M makes a good one.

Delicious Grilled Yellow Squash In Onions Recipe

A few days ago my hubby picked some of our ripe yellow squash from the garden and seasoned it up and placed it onto our grill. It was absolutely moist, juicy and delicious so I thought I would share with all of you today on how he made it.

Grilled Yellow Squash in Onions Recipe

1 medium to large sized yellow squash
olive oil
4 to 5 Tablespoons of finely chopped onions
salt and black pepper to taste
1 teaspoon freshly chopped Cilantro

Slice your yellow squash into 1/4" thick slices and then lightly mist both sides of the slices with olive oil. Mix together the chopped onions, salt, black pepper and chopped Cilantro and coat both sides of your squash slices in the seasonings you prepared. Place them on a grill plate or into a foil packet and grill on a hot grill for 5-6 minutes or until fork tender.

This makes a healthy and delicious vegetable side dish to go along with your grilled burgers, hot dogs, chicken or steaks.

My Review: I received the Royal Harvest Banana Flax Oil, Coconut Flax Oil and the Caramel Flax Oil to review for all of you. First up...the Caramel Flax Oil which we have been using 1 teaspoon in our morning coffee and hot cocoa and let me tell you...this oil adds a wonderful caramel sweet tastes to your morning beverages! This one we have been strictly using in our coffee and hot cocoa beverages and love it!

The next two which are the Banana Flax Oil and the Coconut Flax Oil we have been using in our hot oatmeal, hot cereal and various desserts that I make like cakes, cupcakes and pies. I made some chocolate cupcakes a few days ago and made a vanilla frosting for them and I added 1 teaspoon of the Coconut Flax Oil to my frosting recipe and oh my gosh...what a wonderful addition that made because my frosting on the cupcakes was delicious! That same day I made us some banana smoothies with vanilla yogurt and I added 2 tablespoons of the Banana Flax Oil to that and wow...it totally enhanced the banana flavor of our smoothies and they were out of this world delicious!!!

True Citrus 100% Natural True Lemon and True Lime | Product Review

Today I would like to introduce you to the food & beverage company called True Citrus who makes cold-processed, crystallized lemon, lime, orange and grapefruit mixes that can be used for beverages, teas and in dessert and baking recipes. The True Citrus line of products are 100% natural and made from real fruit.

I received a 2.85 oz. shaker of True Lemon crystallized Lemon and a 2.85 oz. shaker of True Lime crystallized Lime and they are 100% all natural and made from real lemons and real limes. Each one has 0 calories with 0 grams of sugar. Any time you need real lemon juice or real lime juice for a recipe, you can use these instead! If the recipe calls for 1/2 teaspoon of lime juice then you would use 1 Tbsp. of the True Lime and the same goes for the True Lemon.

These wonderful products can be sprinkled on fruits, vegetables and salads. They are also great for seasoning fish, meat, seafood and poultry. Instead of using traditional salt to season your foods try seasoning them with True Lemon or True Lime. They are wonderful for baking or making desserts and instead of using a fresh lemon or lime, just substitute with these! I love that I don't have to rush out to the store to buy lemon or lime juice and these are shelf stable in my pantry. What is even more impressive is that they are made from real citrus fruit so they taste like real citrus fruit!!!

Here is a collection of lemon recipes that utilize True Lemon and here is a collection of lime recipes that utilize True Lime. A few days ago we sprinkled some of the True Lemon along with some cracked black pepper onto some fish and threw our fish onto the grill. It was delicious! The very next day we sprinkled some of the True Lime onto our tropical fruit salad that we made for dessert and it added a really nice tropical citrus taste to the fruit salad juice! yummy!

I really like the True Lemon and the True Lime as they are so easy to use and much more convenient than running out to the store to purchase fresh limes/lemons and then running back home to juice them. This is the way to go folks and we highly recommend these 2 products to you!

4 Delicious Cracker Spread Recipes For Your Next Party

When it comes to entertaining friends and family at various get-together's that I host every year...I like to prepare easy recipes that taste delicious. Just like my party guests, I want to enjoy my party and not spend 2 or 3 days making all of the food. With that said, these 4 recipes are super easy to prepare and make great appetizer spreads served with a variety of your favorite crackers.

Three of these 4 cracker spread recipes need to be refrigerated for a few hours before serving them to allow the flavors to infuse. The fourth recipe is best served warm fresh from the oven.

Green Pepper Cracker Spread Recipe

2 large eggs, beaten
1 Tablespoon butter, softened
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons white vinegar
1 (8 ounce) block cream cheese, softened
1 green pepper, chopped

In a double boiler pan, combined the eggs, butter, granulated sugar and vinegar and cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from burner to let cool and then pour mixture into a mixing bowl. Stir in the softened cream cheese and chopped green pepper and stir until they are well mixed in to the other ingredients. Cover bowl and refrigerate for 2-3 hours before serving.

Artichoke Cracker Spread Spread Recipe

1 (16 ounce) can artichokes
1 cup low-fat mayonnaise
1 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated
1 teaspoon garlic powder

Drain artichokes, rinse and then slice them into quarters. In a medium mixing bowl combine together the sliced artichokes, mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese and garlic powder until mixture is creamy. Spread mixture into the bottom of a 9" round pie pan and bake in a preheated 325 degree oven for 35 minutes or until the top is lightly browned. Remove from oven and let it cool for 10 minutes before serving it. If there are any left-overs, promptly refrigerate them in an air-tight container.

Cream Cheese Cracker Spread Recipe

1 (8 ounce) block cream cheese, softened
1 cup walnuts, removed from shell and crushed
1 to 1 1/2 cups plump raisins

In a small bowl, combine together the softened cream cheese, crushed walnut pieces and the raisins using a rubber spatula until all three ingredients are combined. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours before serving.

Cheesy Spinach Cracker Spread Recipe

2 boxes frozen chopped spinach
2 cups low-fat mayonnaise
1/2 cup onions, finely chopped
1 (8 ounce) bag cheddar cheese, shredded

Remove spinach from freezer 30 minutes before preparation. Once it has thawed, rinse, drain away the water and place it into a medium sized mixing bowl. Stir in the low-fat mayonnaise, chopped onions and cheddar cheese. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.

True Citrus 100% Natural Beverage Mixes | Product Review

Today I would like to introduce you to the food & beverage company called True Citrus who makes cold-processed, crystallized lemon, lime, orange and grapefruit mixes that can be used for beverages, teas and in dessert and baking recipes. The True Citrus line of products are 100% natural and made from real fruit.

For my review today, they sent me 4 boxes of their beverage mixes can I received the following 4 flavors: Original Lemonade, Raspberry Lemonade, Orange (for your water) and Lemon (for your water) to try out for all of you. Each box comes with 10 packets and you simply mix one packet with 16 oz. of water (stir or shake it up) chill it and you are ready for a nice cold beverage. The Original Lemonade & Raspberry Lemonade only have 5 calories per serving. The Orange & Lemon (for your water) have 0 calories per serving. However, I love sweetened drinks so I did find that adding a teaspoon of granulated sugar to each of my beverages was the perfect sweetness for me.
The first one I tried out was the Raspberry Lemonade and I poured one packet into a large cup of water and within 3-4 seconds it was completely dissolved with no clumps at all. I then added my teaspoon of sugar (not required) and threw in a few ice cubes. I made my mother the Original Lemonade at the same time (didn't put sugar in hers) and the two of us sat down to enjoy our cold beverages. We both thought that they tasted excellent...matter of fact, you would of never guessed that all of this "goodness" came from a little packet!

For the True Orange...I decided to mix those with some water and I poured them into the wee-ones popsicle mold and placed it into the freezer for 5 hours to make some homemade popsicles for her. Once they were firm, I removed one and handed it to her and she said "Nana good pop" so I guess you could say...the wee one loved her new pops! I did the same thing with the True Lemon and I wasn't sure if she would like lemon pops but low & behold, she does! So if you have kids I would suggest buying those plastic popsicle molds and use some of these True Citrus mixes to make some homemade low-cal popsicles for them! yeah!

Overall, we love these mixes as they are super convenient, taste great, easy to use, great to take on the go and just a fabulous product! We give them 2 thumbs up and recommend them to you! You can fan/like True Citrus over on Facebook and/or follow them over on Twitter.

Robert Rothschild Farm Smoky Sweet Sauce | Review and Giveaway

Today I would like to introduce you the company called Robert Rothschild Farm. This company began as a family found business in Urbana, Ohio over thirty years ago and they are known for making delicious gourmet food products like dips, preserves, mustards, sauces, salsas, sweet toppings, delicious mustards and gourmet condiments.

You can purchase their gourmet products directly from their web site store and in retail establishments across the nation. You can find entertaining ideas and delicious easy to prepare recipes directly on their web site.

My Review: Today I am reviewing the Robert Rothschild Farm Anna Mae's Smoky Sweet Sauce for all of you. This delicious smoky sweet sauce is made with seasoned tomatoes, onions, honey mustard, spices etc. which give this sauce a delicious smoky and sweet taste to it. You can baste it on chicken, turkey, pork and ribs which is what we used it for! It is all-natural, kosher and gluten-free!
We decided to use it on a rack of ribs so I placed my ribs into my marinating container and poured the entire bottle into the container and refrigerated it overnight. The next morning I simply poured everything into my slow cooker (crock pot) and covered it. I set my dial on the low setting and I slow cooked the ribs for 6 1/2 hours. (they were purchased fully cooked). Once done, I removed them from the slow cooker and hubby and I sat down to enjoy our rib dinner. These ribs were FINGER-LICKING good! They had a nice smoky flavor and they were sweet and juicy! Our ribs were flavorful from the outside on in! OH MY HEAVENS...hubby states we now have a new favorite rib sauce and I am agreeing with him! We give this sauce a HUGE 2 thumbs up and I think it is probably our favorite product (to-date) that we have reviewed for them!

Purchasing Info: You can purchase a 12 fl. oz. bottle of Anna Mae's Smoky Sweet Sauce directly from Robert Rothschild and at retailers nationwide for around $9.19 a bottle and it is worth every dime!!!

5 Winners Will Each Win Two 4-Packs of enLiven Probiotic Yogurt Giveaway

Today I would like to introduce you to the product called enLiven Yogurt which comes in 4 delicious flavors: Vanilla, Peach, Blueberry and Strawberry. This low-fat yogurt is made by a company called Ganeden, the nation's leading distributor of over-the-counter probiotic products.

enLiven yogurt has no artificial flavors or coloring and offers a creamy taste in 4 delicious flavors. It is 99 percent fat-free and contains significant amounts of live and active cultures to support digestive health. enLiven is lower in price, sodium and fat than other leading yogurt brands and each serving is about 110 calories. It is sold in convenient packs of four, 4 oz. containers for about .47 cents a serving.

My Review: We were sent a few coupons to go out and pick up some enLiven yogurt for free so we picked up a pack of the blueberry, peach and a pack of the strawberry since we are big yogurt eaters here in our home. When I was ready for my "treat" I sat down to enjoy a cup of the peach yogurt and wow...I was really impressed! The yogurt had a nice creamy texture and the taste was fabulous! Sometimes yogurts are too "thick" in their texture but this one was nice and creamy. Later that same day my hubby grabbed a cup of the strawberry yogurt to have for his evening snack. At first he wasn't too happy that I changed the brand on him but once he had a few bites of the yogurt he quickly changed his tune! I have always been a picky yogurt eater but let me tell you, hubby is even pickier! My hubby told me that from now on...we wants this brand! Like me....he likes a smooth, light, creamy taste/texture to his yogurt and that is exactly what you get with enLiven. In addition...their flavors like the blueberry, peach, vanilla and strawberry are delicious and taste like the fruit they are supposed to taste like. My family now has a new favorite yogurt brand and besides the texture being perfect and the flavor being perfect...these yogurts are good for you! yeah!

Giveaway: (5) Five lucky winners are each going to receive (2) coupons which they can redeem for a FREE 4-pack of Enliven Probiotics Yogurt. (up to $2.00 value per coupon). The enLiven yogurts are available at Walmart nationwide so you can redeem your coupons there!

I love to make brownies for my family and I enjoy making them several different ways (and flavors) just to keep it interesting and this recipe is from the 1970's and was given to me by my great auntie. If you like a 'rich' and 'deccadent' brownie...this recipe is for you!

1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted

In a large bowl combined together the flour, baking powder, salt and chopped pecans. In a large mixing bowl combine together the eggs, butter, sugar and vanilla extract and blend together with an electric mixer. Stir in the melted chocolate and mix again until everything is well combined. French Meadow Bakery | Gluten-Free Pizza Crusts and Cinnamon Raisin Bread | Product Review

Today I would like to introduce you to the wonderful bakery company known as French Meadow Bakery who has been in business since 1985. This bakery is the longest running certified organic bakery here in the US. They make and sell a variety delicious tasting breads, rolls, muffins, tortillas, bagels, cookies, cakes, brownies and desserts.

My Review: The generous folks over at French Meadow Bakery sent me 2 products to review for all of you. First up is the French Meadow Bakery Gluten-Free Pizza Crust which is sold in a 2-pack. These are personal pan pizza size made with a blend of rice, tapioca and potato flour with a touch of olive oil. I took these crusts out of my freezer, thawed them for 10 minutes and then topped them with my favorite pizza sauce, pizza cheese and one of them we topped with some sliced mushrooms. We baked them for 20 minutes at 350 degrees and when they were done...my hubby and adult daughter sat down to have pizza for lunch. Both of them liked the crusts...but did comment that it had a little bit of a grainy texture to it but it did taste good.

The second product we reviewed was the French Meadow Bakery Gluten-Free Cinnamon Raisin Bread which had a lot of plump, juicy raisins with swirls of tasty cinnamon. We had this gluten-free bread 2 mornings in a row for breakfast! We toasted it in the toaster oven and then topped the toasted slices with honey butter. yummy! We loved this bread!

You can print off a $1.00 off coupon for French Meadow Bakery products directly from their web site! yeah! I would like to invite you to fan/like French Meadow Bakery over on Facebook so that you can stay up to date with product news and interact with fans of their products. Thank you French Meadow Bakery for participating in this foodie product review for all of my SNB Foodie Blog readers.

Book Review | The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eating Local

Today I am reviewing for all of you the book called "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eating Local" by Diane A. Welland, M.S., R.D. which teaches you to enjoy fresher, healthier foods and help the environment by eating local. This book contains 320 pages and the ISBN: 978-1-61564-076-8 and the cover price is $16.95.

Synopsis: You want to eat healthy, fresh foods, and at the same time, be good to the environment. But it's a challenge to know what is available, when it's available and where you can get it locally. You can find your favorite foods and discover new favorites without headaches and a tank of gas. The next best thing to a personal tour through your local farmer's market, this helpful guide gives you:

* A primer on why eating close to the land not only rewards you with incredible food, but also supports your community & your planet.

* A look at heirloom vegetables, seasonal fruits, fresh meats and dairy products, an other local food that is near you.

* Tips for shopping local at food festivals, CSAs, U-picks, and even supermarkets, plus advice on food foraging.

* Suggestions for making the most of your harvest, including 25 regional recipes highlight local specialties.

My Review: I have never read an "idiots guide" before until now so I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. The book is broken down into 17 easy-to-read chapters and in the back of the book is a glossary, resources section, eating local by region section and a favorite recipes section. The book starts out with an introduction and explanation of what eating local is about along with what it means to you. It then goes into chapter 2 which is about the benefits of eating local which I found to be very motivating on why I need to do a better job at purchasing local food. As you go through the book you will find a chapter on local produce, local meat, fish & poultry, local dairy products & eggs and so forth. I really love how the book builds from step 1 to step 2 and so forth. It is really laid out nicely in an easy to read & understand format. Since I live near several farmer's markets and U-picks I found those chapters to be really helpful to me since I do prefer to purchase as much food as I can from local growers. I really like this book and I am excited to try out some of the local recipes in the back like the Maryland Crab Cakes and the Florida Key Lime Pie...yummy!

I think it is a great book and for those of you who are interested in this topic it would be a fabulous book for you and I guarantee you that you will learn lots of new tips and ideas once you read this book that you can apply tomorrow when it comes to feeding your family and do so in a local, responsible way.

I would like to thank the PR company that we work with for sending me this fabulous book. I look forward to reading it a few more times and I look forward to making several of the "local" recipes in the back of the book.

Delicious Gourmet Muffin Mix and Pancake Mix by Brynn & Amie | Review and Giveaway

Today I would like to introduce you to the company called Brynn & Amie where you can purchase artisan created gourmet foods and gifts. This wonderful company is owned by two friends named Brynn & Amie and now the two women have also become business partners. The products that you find at Brynn & Amie's are all handmade on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Today I am reviewing two of their gourmet food products for you. The first product is the Brynn & Amie "karma krunch" pancake mix which contains organic whole wheat flour, sunflower seeds, plump juicy raisins, dried apricots, dried cranberries and other great tasting things! Each bag contains 2 packages of pancake mix and each package makes about 8 pancakes. The recipe is printed on the bag and all you will need to add is milk, egg and butter. My hubby wanted to make me breakfast in bed since I wasn't feeling well so I left him make these pancakes for me. The batter mixed up quickly and easily and within minutes I had a plate full of pancakes in front of me. I topped my pancakes with a slew of honey butter and dug in for my taste test. These pancakes were light, fluffy and absolutely delicious! I could taste the raisins, cranberries and apricots in them and I loved having the addition of the fruit as it certainly "dressed up" the regular old morning pancakes! Geesh, I don't think I could ever go back to regular morning pancakes now that I have had these! They tasted delicious and were very filling and both hubby and I enjoyed them. My hubby doesn't make pretty pancakes as you can see in the photo...but they sure were DELICIOUS!The second item that we got to try out for all of you was the Brynn & Amie "karma krunch" Muffin Mix. These muffins are perfect for breakfast, brunch or for an afternoon tea & muffin snack. To make these muffins all you have to add is water, eggs, oil & vanilla and the batter mixes up smoothly and quickly. The mix makes approximately 24 regular sized muffins. The ingredients include: organic whole wheat flour, oats, nuts, seeds and dried fruit. It took me about 5 minutes to get my batter mixed up, placed the "karma krunch" topping on top and then I lined my muffin pan with paper cups and spooned my batter into them. I placed them into the oven and about 12-14 minutes later my muffins were done. Once they cooled a little bit, hubby and put a pat of honey butter onto each one and we enjoyed! OH MY HEAVENS...these have got to be the best homemade muffins I have ever tasted! I loved having the dried fruit in them which during the baking process plumped up those fruits and I loved that there was generous amounts of the fruit in the muffins. This muffin mix is better than any of that boxed stuff you get at the grocery store...it is absolutely FANTASTIC!We highly recommend Brynn & Amie to you along with all of their delicious gourmet products! You can feel proud about purchasing USA MADE products from them that are easy to use and taste delicious! You can purchase the "karma krunch" muffin mix directly from them for $9.50 and you can purchase the "karma krunch" pancake mix for $9.50.

Giveaway: One lucky winner will win 1 pkg. of Brynn & Amie's Muffin Mix ($9.50 Value) and 1 pkg. of Pancake Mix ($9.50 Value) for total prize pkg. value of $19.00. You will love these gourmet food products!!!!

Delicious Homemade German Cheese Cake Recipe

I love making homemade cheesecakes for my family...matter of fact, it's my husbands favorite dessert item and I make them various ways to keep it interesting for him. This recipe comes from my dad's side of the family and today I thought I would share it with all of you.

German Cheese Cake Recipe

Crust:

18 pieces of zwieback
2-3 tablespoons of butter, melted
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 lb. block of cream cheese, softened and cubed

Filling:

2 large eggs, separated
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
thin rind of 1/2 lemon

Topping:

1 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Break six pieces of zwieback into a blender container, cover and process on the grind setting until it becomes a semi-fine crumb consistency. Empty the crumbs into a medium sized bowl and repeat the process with the remaining zwieback. Mix the melted butter & sugar with the crumbs, press them onto the bottom of a 9" or 10" spring form cake pan. Bake in the oven for 5 minutes. Cool. Place the egg yolks, sugar, lemon juice and rind, vanilla extract and half of the cheese into a blender container, cover and process until smooth. Add in the remaining cheese, continue to process until the mixture is smooth. Beat egg whites with electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Fold blended mixture into the egg whites, pour the mixture into the crumb crust and bake for 35-45 minutes. Put the sour cream, sugar and vanilla into the blender container, cover and process until smooth. Spread this mixture evenly over the top of the cake and return it to the oven for an additional 8 minutes. Cool before removing from the cake pan.

Upromise is giving away (10) $1,000 prizes and (1) grand prize of $10,000 to one lucky winner. Wow, I think that is absolutely fabulous! During the 10 years that Upromise has been helping people achieve their educational dreams they have already given away $600 million in college savings through their rewards program.

I hope you will take some time out of your busy day to go over to the Upromise Dream Wall and read/vote on the stories or perhaps submit one of your own. This is an important program and I hope you will show your support.

VOGA Italia’s Late Summer Sangria Cocktail Recipe

As the season winds down, late summer fruit takes center stage, with farmer’s markets and grocers overflowing with ripe peaches, fresh apricots, and the first apples of the season. Savor the final days of August with the Late Summer Sangria recipe from VOGA Italia, the thoughtfully packaged Italian wine with a uniquely designed resealable top.

Please find the recipe below, featuring VOGA Moscato, this season’s favorite white. Moscato offers subtle bubbles to any white sangria recipe, with light floral notes that blend perfectly with peach and citrus flavors.

VOGA Italia’s Late Summer Sangria Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients:

· 1 Bottle of VOGA Italia Moscato Wine
· 1 12 oz. bottle of Peach Beer (VOGA recommends using Dogfish Head’s Festina Pêche or Lindemans Pêche Lambic)

· 3 oz. Triple Sec
· 2 sliced peaches
· 2 sliced apricots
· 1 sliced Granny Smith apple
· 1 sliced lemon
· 1 sliced lime
· 1/2 liter club soda

Preparation: Pour wine and beer in a large pitcher and add sliced peach, apricot, apple, lemon and lime. Next add triple sec and stir gently. Chill mixture for at least one hour, and top with club soda and stir before serving.

I Love Using Straight Talk For My Cellular Carrier

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Straight Talk for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love to cook and bake and I am often calling various friends and family members to obtain their recipes or to just chat about cooking and baking and I am so glad that I found Straight Talk for my cellular carrier because they are so much cheaper than my previous one. I love that I have cut my cell phone bill in half and I am not locked into any long term contracts! Wow, what a huge savings for me so I plan on using my savings to purchase a new stainless steel refrigerator later this year.

Straight Talk has everything you need and then some! There are no surprise bills, no contracts and no credit checks and you have got to love that! They have excellent customer service, great reliable connectivity and nationwide coverage. Straight Talk only uses reliable phone manufacturers like Motorola, LG, Nokia and Samsung.

The All You Need Plan is great for heavy phone users like myself because you get 1,000 minutes, 1,000 texts and 30 MB of web date in that plan which is awesome! Unlimited monthly service is only $45 and that will fit into just about everyone's budget. Just think, if you sign up for the Unlimited service it will only cost you $499.00 a year! Wow, that is a big savings! 411 calls are free and there are no charges for deactivation, activation or reactivation.

Straight Talk also has a great international plan for those of you who need to make international calls on a regular basis. With rates like this, I can call a friend any time that I want to get their recipes and to just talk about cooking and baking. If you need a phone they have reconditioned phones for $10 and those include a camera, MP3 Player, mobile web access and more!
